Changing the world one :) at a time

All the effectiveness of traditional braces. Far less of the metal.

For many people, the idea of wearing braces as an adult feels like a compromise, effective, perhaps, but not exactly discreet. Fixed tooth-coloured braces change that equation entirely. Using brackets matched closely to the natural shade of your teeth and translucent wiring, they deliver the same reliable, proven results as conventional metal braces while attracting a fraction of the attention.

At Smile Society, we offer fixed tooth-coloured braces as part of a wider range of teeth straightening options, and we’ll always help you find the approach that best fits your teeth, your timeline, and your lifestyle.

What are fixed tooth-coloured braces?

Fixed tooth-coloured braces work in the same way as traditional fixed braces. Brackets are bonded to the front of each tooth, connected by a wire, and gradually adjusted over time to guide teeth into their correct positions.

Smile Society

Who are they suitable for?

Fixed tooth-coloured braces are a versatile option for both younger patients and adults, and they’re capable of treating a wide range of orthodontic concerns.

For children and teenagers, issues such as crooked or crowded teeth, protruding teeth, malocclusion (bite problems), and irregular spacing are common, often with a hereditary element, and sometimes worsened by habits like thumb-sucking or nail-biting.

Smile Society

The key advantages at a glance

  • Discretion without compromise. Tooth-coloured brackets and translucent wiring make for a system that’s significantly less visible than conventional metal braces, something that matters to patients of all ages, but particularly adults in professional or social environments.
  • Proven clinical effectiveness. Fixed tooth-coloured braces can treat the same range of conditions as metal braces, applying a sustained and gentle force to progressively reposition teeth. There’s no compromise on results.

Success stories. Real outcomes

“Alex was fantastic. I went for the extraction of a broken tooth, but I didn't even know he had taken it out. I haven't been to a dentist for 12 years. I am definitely using this one. The aftercare is great. Shame the front of the building doesn't represent the great decor inside. The staff are very friendly and pleasant, which is a good thing to keep you calm. I guess you can tell I don't like the dentist, but I shook hands with Alex, a great man.”

Patient stories

“I went in after I had a severely broken wisdom tooth with an ongoing infection. NHS wouldn’t remove it and wanted to put me on a 3-year wait list. I called another private dentist, who was unable to do it, in case it was surgical, but passed me the number of Gwersyllt Dental. They were absolutely fantastic. I was very nervous, having been in pain for over a week and made out as if it was a really big deal extraction, but all the staff and the dentist were absolutely brilliant, I couldn’t fault them! Thank you so much. He'll be back!”

Patient stories

“I have an extreme phobia of dentists, following a very bad experience some 30 years ago. This resulted in my having to have full dentures. Gwersyllt and Dr Tirca have been brilliant. The care, treatment and understanding I received were second to none. Every step was explained and taken slowly to ensure I felt at ease. I am surprised at the fit and match of the dentures. Thank you all.”

Patient stories

“All staff are very friendly, polite and helpful. Mr Tirca is very diligent and professional, recently helping me with an ongoing issue. Check-up appointments are always arranged to your convenience.”

Patient stories

“You're greeted with a lovely smile and a great welcome. The surgery is spotless, the dentist is exceptional, all is explained in detail with the work to be carried out, all the staff are friendly and helpful, would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for great dental care. Thank you to all who work there.”

Frequently asked questions

What are the advantages of fixed tooth-coloured braces?

The three main advantages are discretion, value, and efficiency. Tooth-coloured brackets combined with translucent wiring create a system that’s far less noticeable than conventional metal braces, a significant benefit for anyone conscious about appearance during treatment.

In terms of cost, they’re among the most affordable discreet fixed brace options available. And because treatment times are comparable to metal braces, you’re not trading speed for subtlety.

What conditions can fixed tooth-coloured braces treat?

They’re capable of addressing the vast majority of orthodontic concerns that metal braces treat, including crooked or crowded teeth, teeth that are out of alignment, protruding teeth, and irregular spacing or gaps.

They work by applying a continuous, gentle force that gradually shifts teeth into their ideal positions over time. The best way to find out whether they’re suited to your specific situation is to book a consultation, where we can assess your teeth and talk through all your options.

Do teeth ever need to be removed before orthodontic treatment?

In some cases, yes, particularly where significant overcrowding is present. If a mouth is too small to accommodate all the teeth comfortably, or if a protruding tooth would overlap with adjacent teeth when moved back into position, extraction of one or more teeth may be recommended before braces are fitted.

This might sound daunting, but it’s a routine part of orthodontic planning when necessary.

Creating the right amount of space means the remaining teeth can move cleanly and predictably into position, producing a better final result. When carried out as part of a well-planned treatment, only you and your dental team will be aware it’s happened.

How long does treatment take?

This varies depending on the complexity of your case, but most treatments with fixed tooth-coloured braces take anywhere from 9 to 24 months.

Short-term cosmetic options focusing only on the front visible teeth can be completed more quickly, sometimes in just a few weeks. We’ll give you a realistic, personalised estimate at your consultation.

Are tooth-coloured braces suitable for children?

Yes, and treating children at the right time (ideally between the ages of 8 and 14) can make a significant difference to treatment outcomes.

During these years, the jaw is still developing, which means certain corrections are more straightforward and results can be more stable.

We’ll assess your child’s teeth and recommend the most appropriate timing and treatment approach.

How visible are they really?

Much less noticeable than traditional metal braces. The tooth-coloured ceramic brackets blend with the natural shade of your teeth, and the wiring is translucent.

Up close, the system is visible, but in everyday interactions, most people won’t notice you’re wearing braces at all.

What happens when the braces come off?

Once treatment is complete and the braces are removed, you’ll be fitted with a retainer, a custom-made appliance worn to hold your teeth in their new positions while the surrounding bone stabilises.

Retainer wear is an essential part of protecting your investment in straight teeth, and we’ll guide you on exactly how and when to wear it.

Can I have tooth-coloured braces if I want something completely invisible?

If total invisibility is your priority, we’d recommend discussing lingual braces (bonded to the back surface of the teeth, completely hidden from view) or clear aligner treatment such as Invisalign®. Both are available at Smile Society.

We’ll help you understand the pros, cons, and costs of each option so you can make an informed choice.
