Teeth are strong, but they’re not indestructible.

Biting down on something unexpectedly hard or experiencing a knock can be enough to leave a tooth chipped, cracked or broken.

In some cases, the damage is only cosmetic. In others, it can affect how the tooth functions or feels.

At Smile Society, treatment focuses on restoring both the appearance and strength of the tooth, using the most appropriate option for your situation.

Our Promise

At Smile Society, we take the time to assess the condition of the tooth and straightforwardly explain your options. Whether the damage is minor or more significant, the focus is always on choosing the treatment that best protects your tooth and suits your needs.

Treatment Options for Chipped or Broken Teeth

There are several ways to repair a damaged tooth, depending on the severity and location of the problem.

  • Composite bonding
A tooth-coloured resin is applied and shaped directly onto the tooth to repair chips or refine the shape. This is often a good option for smaller areas of damage.
  • Ceramic veneers
For front teeth, veneers can be used to improve the shape and appearance of the tooth by covering the front surface with a thin ceramic layer.

Success stories. Real outcomes

“Alex was fantastic. I went for the extraction of a broken tooth, but I didn't even know he had taken it out. I haven't been to a dentist for 12 years. I am definitely using this one. The aftercare is great. Shame the front of the building doesn't represent the great decor inside. The staff are very friendly and pleasant, which is a good thing to keep you calm. I guess you can tell I don't like the dentist, but I shook hands with Alex, a great man.”

Patient stories

“I went in after I had a severely broken wisdom tooth with an ongoing infection. NHS wouldn’t remove it and wanted to put me on a 3-year wait list. I called another private dentist, who was unable to do it, in case it was surgical, but passed me the number of Gwersyllt Dental. They were absolutely fantastic. I was very nervous, having been in pain for over a week and made out as if it was a really big deal extraction, but all the staff and the dentist were absolutely brilliant, I couldn’t fault them! Thank you so much. He'll be back!”

Patient stories

“I have an extreme phobia of dentists, following a very bad experience some 30 years ago. This resulted in my having to have full dentures. Gwersyllt and Dr Tirca have been brilliant. The care, treatment and understanding I received were second to none. Every step was explained and taken slowly to ensure I felt at ease. I am surprised at the fit and match of the dentures. Thank you all.”

Patient stories

“All staff are very friendly, polite and helpful. Mr Tirca is very diligent and professional, recently helping me with an ongoing issue. Check-up appointments are always arranged to your convenience.”

Patient stories

“You're greeted with a lovely smile and a great welcome. The surgery is spotless, the dentist is exceptional, all is explained in detail with the work to be carried out, all the staff are friendly and helpful, would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for great dental care. Thank you to all who work there.”

Frequently asked questions

Can a chipped tooth be repaired?

Yes. Many chipped teeth can be repaired quickly and effectively, often using composite bonding.

The treatment involves applying a tooth-coloured material to rebuild the missing part of the tooth and restore its shape.

For larger chips or more visible areas, veneers or crowns may be recommended to achieve a more durable and aesthetic result.

Is a broken tooth always painful?

Not always. Some chipped or broken teeth may not cause immediate pain, especially if the inner part of the tooth is not affected.

However, even if it doesn’t hurt, it’s still important to have the tooth checked, as damage can worsen over time or lead to sensitivity or infection.

What should I do if I break a tooth?

If you chip or break a tooth, it’s best to contact your dentist as soon as possible.

In the meantime, try to avoid chewing on that side, keep the area clean, and avoid very hot or cold foods if the tooth feels sensitive.

Early assessment can help prevent further damage and make treatment simpler.

How long does it take to fix a chipped tooth?

Smaller chips can often be repaired in a single appointment using composite bonding.

More complex treatments, such as veneers or crowns, may require additional visits, particularly if they are being custom-made in a dental laboratory.

Will the repair look natural?

Yes. Modern dental materials are designed to match the natural colour and appearance of your teeth.

Whether using bonding, veneers or crowns, the aim is always to restore the tooth so it blends seamlessly with the rest of your smile.
